Nigeria’s fisheries and aquaculture sector is vital to the nation’s food security, economic growth, community livelihoods, and climate resilience. However, the sector faces significant challenges, including climate change impacts such as shifts in fish populations, rising water temperatures, and unpredictable weather patterns. Women, who play critical roles in fisheries operations, are underrepresented in leadership and decision-making processes.
This project seeks to bridge these gaps by equipping women with the education, mentorship, and skills needed to take on leadership roles. By nurturing future women leaders, the initiative aims to enhance climate resilience, promote sustainable practices, and transform the sector for long-term sustainability. Addressing the dual challenges of climate change and gender inequality, this project underscores the urgent need to empower women as key drivers of innovation and progress in fisheries and aquaculture.
