Increasing Renewable Energy Investments for Empowerment of Women in Sustainable Agriculture & Lithium Mining in West Africa (IREEWAM, West Africa) (2025) with funding support from Africa Centre for Energy Policy.

The Center for Gender Economics in Africa (CGE Africa), in partnership with Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA) and Ziva Community Initiative, implemented a multi-country project focused on empowering women in agriculture and mining in Northern Nigeria and Northern Ghana by advocating for increased public investment in renewable energy. The project addressed energy access and climate challenges that limit women’s economic participation, productivity, and livelihoods in these regions.

Through research, media engagement, capacity-building workshops, citizen engagement meetings, and national budget dialogues, the initiative strengthened advocacy for gender-responsive renewable energy policies, promoted sustainable agricultural and mining practices, and amplified women’s voices in energy decision-making. The project also fostered cross-country collaboration and policy dialogue to advance inclusive energy transitions that support women’s livelihoods and climate resilience.
